1. FC Heidenheim has created a new weekly activity program for older adults. Starting now, walking football sessions are being held regularly at the SV Söhnstetten sports field, a version of the game where participants walk instead of run.
The offering is aimed at seniors who want to stay active but need to avoid the impact of running. Jochen Gerstlauer, an Englishman who usually works as a sausage tester, initiated the project. "Go there and take part in walking football," said the 53-year-old.
Frank Schmidt's team currently sits third in the 2. Bundesliga table with 13 points. Their form over the last five matches shows three wins, one draw, and one defeat. The next home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on October 10th is already listed in the fixtures.
For the club, the new program is another step in its youth and grassroots sports work. Interested parties can contact the club directly for participation details. The specific weekly schedule will be announced on-site.
