Heidenheim has launched a new Walking Football team, providing an inclusive sporting opportunity for all ages and abilities. The team's inaugural training session took place on September 16th at the artificial turf pitch of SV Söhnstetten.
This variant of the game eliminates running and significantly reduces the pace to ease strain on joints and ligaments. Technique, game understanding and tactical thinking remain central. The debut session included an introduction to the rules, a warm-up and a final social gathering. "Not so easy!" was the verdict from some participants, including former footballers adapting to the slower pace. Experienced walking football players within the group supported the newcomers.
Next Steps and Registration
The next training session is scheduled for the following Wednesday. Registration for further sessions in September 2026 is open via an online form. The team explicitly welcomes people with sports or football injuries as well as people with disabilities.
While Heidenheim's first team sits 3rd in the 2. Bundesliga with 13 points and prepares for a home match against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on October 10th, this community initiative highlights the club's social commitment. The professionals have recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five matches. The Walking Football team's next training session is set for just a few days from now.
