1. FC Heidenheim has secured their first away win of this 2. Bundesliga season. The relegated Bundesliga side won 1-0 (1-0) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday, climbing to third place in the league table.
The decisive goal came early in the 12th minute. Budu Zivzivadze headed in a corner from the left from five meters out to score the winner. Fürth goalkeeper Florian Hellstern had no chance. Sportschau reported live from the match at the Ronhof.
Heidenheim took the early lead and controlled the game well afterwards. The biggest threat to their own goal was dealt with by Heidenheim keeper Thomas Dähne in the first half. The 32-year-old safely saved a shot from Luca Itter from about 16 meters. On the other end, the home side's offense remained largely harmless. Felix Klaus was repeatedly thwarted by the visitors' compact defensive line.
The second half initially brought a big opportunity for Heidenheim to make it 2-0. In the 55th minute, Oualid Mhamdi broke through, but his finish was stopped by Fürth keeper Florian Hellstern. Hellstern suffered a bloody nose during this action. Fürth increased the pressure but found few gaps in the well-organized defense of coach Frank Schmidt's team. The Cloverleaves often lacked precision in the final third.
Heiko Vogel, head coach of SpVgg Greuther Fürth, analyzed the defeat in an interview with Sportschau. "In the final third we were a bit too imprecise, a little too complicated," Vogel admitted. The coach demanded a learning effect from his team: "Now a learning effect has to set in, detailed work is ahead of us." Fürth remains stuck in the lower midfield of the table with four points and has already suffered its second defeat of the season.
With the three points in Fürth, Heidenheim collected its ninth point and now sits in third place. The team's current season record under Frank Schmidt reads six points from three games with a goal difference of zero. The team has scored ten goals and conceded the same number. In the table, Heidenheim is now four points behind leaders 1. FC Nürnberg.
