The Heidenheim lineup for the 2. Bundesliga match against Dynamo Dresden on 29 August 2026 has been confirmed.
Manager Frank Schmidt had to regroup his team after a surprising 1-0 defeat to Regionalliga side Jeddeloh II in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. A week earlier, Heidenheim had also lost the second league matchday to Hertha BSC. The opponents from Dresden, however, arrived with momentum after securing their first three points of the season with a narrow win over Darmstadt.
Schmidt fielded a starting eleven with goalkeeper Dähne. The back four consisted of Busch, Mainka as captain, Föhrenbach and Heule. The midfield was formed by Schöppner, Kerber, Costly and Honsak. Up front, the manager relied on the duo Zivzivadze and Kaufmann. This formation was intended to fix the defensive issues visible in previous games. The team currently sits in fourth place with six points but has a balanced goal difference of ten scored and ten conceded.
Dynamo Dresden started with Schreiber in goal. In front of him played Sterner, Keller, Müller and Rossipal in defence. The midfield consisted of Wagner, Boeder and captain Hauptmann. The attack was formed by Inanoglu, Vermeij and Bobzien. This lineup had proven successful in the win against Darmstadt and was meant to create danger in Heidenheim too. The direct table comparison is always available on our standings page.
The duel was an important test for both teams after their contrasting starts. For Heidenheim, it was about quickly moving on from the cup disappointment and keeping pace with the top group in the league. With a three-point gap to leaders 1. FC Nürnberg, the team could not afford further mistakes. The current form of two wins and one loss from three games (WLW) shows an inconsistent picture. The next challenge awaits on 6 September 2026 against table neighbours SpVgg Greuther Fürth, who are in fifth place.
Focus now shifts entirely to the league. The match against Fürth will be the next challenge to stays in the upper third of the table. The team must stabilise its defence to reduce the high number of goals conceded. At the same time, the attack around Zivzivadze and Kaufmann needs further integration. The current performance data of all players is documented on our stats page. The coming weeks will show if Heidenheim can close the early season gap to the leaders.
