1. FC Heidenheim secured a 3-1 victory over third-division side Würzburger Kickers in a friendly match. M. Kaufmann scored twice to provide a timely boost ahead of the team's next 2. Bundesliga fixture.
Frank Schmidt's side led 2-0 at the break. Kaufmann opened the scoring in the 21st minute before P. Hennrich added a second in the 39th. After half-time, Kaufmann netted again in the 65th minute to make it 3-0. A consolation goal for the visitors from T. Kastanaras in the 79th minute did little to affect the outcome.
The match served as useful preparation for the key home league game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on October 10. Heidenheim currently sit third in the 2. Bundesliga with 13 points from six matches, having won three of their last five competitive games. The full squad is available for the challenges ahead.
Attention now turns fully to the clash with Kaiserslautern at the Voith-Arena on Saturday. A win there could further stays in the promotion race.
