Heidenheim has signed Marcel Costly on a transfer deal worth around 500,000 euros. The 30-year-old winger joins from Ingolstadt to the 1. FC Heidenheim. Costly had a standout season in the 3. Liga, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists. He will join the 1. FC Heidenheim on July 1st and sign a three-year contract until June 30th, 2029. For Marcel Costly, it was Frank Schmidt, the coach of the 1. FC Heidenheim, who made the decisive factor: „Frank Schmidt has impressed me with his positive attitude from the very first moment. I knew immediately that I had to take this step. The FCH has built an impressive reputation in German professional football over the past few years. Here, it's about honest work and the team comes first. Exactly what suits my mentality on the pitch.“ Marcel Costly came to Ingolstadt in the summer of 2022 from SV Waldhof Mannheim and initially played as a right-back – before the club eventually used him more offensively, with great success, as his scoring statistics show. The native Achimer is already the second attacking reinforcement for the 1. FC Heidenheim on the right side, after Oualid Mhamdi (ten goals, eight assists in 36 league games) from SC Verl. „With Marcel Costly, we were able to sign a player who had an absolutely outstanding season in the 3. Liga with 18 goals and 10 assists“, says Holger Sanwald, chairman of the 1. FC Heidenheim, about the transfer and continues: „Through his versatility – he can be used in the right attacking midfield, in the center of the attack and as a hanging striker – he will add quality to our squad.“ Unlike Mhamdi, Costly is not transfer-free. Different reports are circulating about the transfer fee: while the „Donaukurier“ writes a million euros, the 1. FC Heidenheim allegedly pays less than 500,000 euros for the services of Marcel Costly, according to the „WAZ“.
