1. FC Heidenheim secured an important 5-3 victory against Dynamo Dresden on the third matchday of the 2. Bundesliga. The team coached by Frank Schmidt turned around a 1-0 halftime deficit, showing a reaction after two disappointing opening defeats. The match took place this week.

This result puts Heidenheim in 9th place in the current table, with three points from two games and a goal difference of 5:7. They trail league leaders Hertha BSC by six points. The next challenge awaits on September 6th against bottom-placed SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The squad is currently without Christian Conteh and Sirlord Conteh.

Dynamo Dresden took the lead in the 30th minute through Vincent Vermeij. Heidenheim's goalkeeper Thomas Dähne started ahead of Frank Feller. Despite the visitors' lead and their later numerical advantage after a yellow-red card for Thomas Keller in the 69th minute, Heidenheim managed to equalize. Jan Schöppner scored in the 67th minute to make it 1-1. But Dresden went ahead again, Robert Wagner making it 2-1 in the 73rd minute. The turning point came shortly after: an own goal by Friedrich Müller in the 77th minute leveled the score once more. In the closing minutes, Oualid Mhamdi (87th), Julian Niehues (89th) and Maximilian Breunig (90+1) scored to make it 5-2. Jonas Sterner netted a consolation goal for Dresden in added time.

The victory was psychologically important. Heidenheim had previously lost their first league match 1-4 to Hertha BSC. This was compounded by a surprising 2-5 defeat to fourth-division side SSV Jeddeloh II in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Frank Schmidt's team now demonstrated morale and perseverance. The attack found its strength in the second half, scoring five goals. This gives the team momentum for the upcoming tasks. Current player performance data is available on our stats page.
