FC Heidenheim must cope without its key midfielder Niklas Dorsch. The experienced player has left the team to pursue a transfer to the Major League Soccer (MLS) in Canada, joining Toronto FC. Dorsch signed the contract over the weekend.
The club will miss him dearly. Holger Sanwald, the chairman of the board, stated: «We would have liked to see Niklas Dorsch remain with FC Heidenheim, but he clearly expressed his wish to take this chance and move to MLS.»
Dorsch served four years under coach Frank Schmidt at FC Heidenheim between 2018 and 2020, making 69 league appearances for the team. After a brief stint in Gent and Augsburg, he rejoined FC Heidenheim in summer 2024 and played in the Conference League as well as contributing to their Bundesliga title-relegation breakthrough into the final.
«After intense negotiations with Toronto FC and ensuring a solution that is good for our club's financial stability, we have decided to grant Dorsch this wish», added Sanwald.
